Let yourself be transported to the bohemian neighbourhood of Lapa in Rio de Janeiro, and experience the legend of the Malandro. The Malandro embodies the spirit of Rio de Janeiro: of seeking happiness, taking risks and thinking on your feet. Malandros are well-dressed, charming and bold. They are masterful gamblers, card-players and dancers.
Malandro-style samba is a variety of dancing samba that expresses the lifestyle of Malandragem. It involves quick and playful footwork, a confident attitude and smooth, charming movements. While Malandro-style samba is traditionally danced by men, it has been embraced by both genders. In this workshop, Tati Rosa will share the dance style and typical movements of Malandro samba.
Tati Rosa is an accomplished samba artist who dances as a musa with the samba school Imperatriz Leopoldinense in Rio de Janeiro. Representing her school, she became one of the finalists at the Corte do Carnaval competition in 2024. Tati is known for her creativity, musicality and performance. She started dancing at the age of six, and has experience with a wide variety of dance styles and techniques, ranging from ballet and afro to zouk and tango. Tati’s classes are very popular in Rio de Janeiro, especially during the carnaval season, as many dancers seek her out to help them in their preparation. This will be Tati’s first tour of Europe. We are honoured to bring her to the Netherlands and grateful for this unique opportunity to learn from her.
